ISI 2005-5. Aeonium nobile Praeger

Ten years ago ISI distributed this species, the largest and most succulent of its genus, with rosettes to 30 cm or more across of thick, fleshy leaves that can blush a lovely orange to red in bright light. Unfortunately, it is also one of the more ephemeral in cultivation as it is monocarpic, like many Agave species, putting all of its energy into one climactic flowering event. In anticipation of this we retained stock of ISI 96-20 and made a point of pollinating two plants when they flowered in 2002 resulting in the generation offered here: second generation seedlings of HBG 46343, originally from La Palma, Canary Is. By way of encouraging others to perpetuate this species in cultivation we offer pairs for $10, trios for $12, lone specimens $7.50.
