Echinopsis 'Antares'
Flower to nearly
5 ½ inches (14 cm) across. Inner petals obovate, dark red with
lighter midrib and narrow orange or light red basal stripe. Outer petals
slightly paler, with pinkish-purple midstripe. Sepals sometimes entirely
pinkish-purple. Filaments dark red to pinkish-red, anthers contrasting
cream-colored. Stem semicolumnar, to 3 ½ inches (9 cm) in diameter;
central spines to 5/8 inch (15 mm) long. Named for the supergiant red
