Programs for Youth & Families

At The Huntington, kids and families learn from "the real thing," be it a personal letter in George Washington's own handwriting, a priceless 18th century cabinet with secret compartments, or a strange carnivorous plant that eats bugs. The Huntington's Youth and Family Programs offer one-day workshops, pre-school series, weekend festivals, and even weeklong day camps.

Family Workshops  ::: Preschool Program
Family Festivals ::: Girl Scout Badges

Family Workshops

Workshops are scheduled bi-monthly and allow youngsters an opportunity to learn from the experts and try their own hands at projects such as flower arranging, creating bonsai trees, planting succulent dish gardens, paper making, constructing a plant and flower press, bread making, or creating a terrarium. For more information, call 626-405-2128 or visit our online Calendar of Events for dates and details.

Preschool Program

The Huntington offers four-week long-preschool programs throughout the year with a special focus on introducing young ones to various aspects of The Huntington's collections. Past themes have included the Japanese Garden, Art and Nature, and Alice and Wonderland. For program dates and details, visit our online Calendar of Events.

Family Festivals

Several times a year The Huntington offers special events related to current exhibitions. Weekend festivals feature music, dance, crafts, demonstrations, and other activities.

Visit our online Calendar of Events for festival dates and details.

To earn Brownie Tri-It or Junior Girl Scout badges, bring your troop to The Huntington during public hours and stop at the Information Booth in the Entrance Pavilion. Please note we are not able to accommodate special requests for early entry or bridging ceremonies. For $5.00 per troop, (admission is a separate and required cost) purchase a packet on the Try-It or badge you would like to complete. Each packet contains a cover sheet with instructions, activity sheets for each girl, and a sign off sheet. Follow the instructions inside, and be sure to have the sign off sheet signed by the Information Docent before leaving The Huntington. (The Brownie Plants Try-It and Junior Outdoor Creativity and Plants & Animals Badges have additional requirements that must be completed outside of The Huntington.) Try-Its or Badges may be purchased at a Council store upon completion.
