Coreen A. Rodgers
SAN MARINO, Calif.—Coreen A. Rodgers has been named vice president for financial affairs at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, Huntington President Steven S. Koblik announced today. She joins the staff in early August.
Rodgers takes the helm from Alison Sowden, who recently left The Huntington after 24 years to become CFO for the Art Institute of Chicago and the School of the Art Institute. Rodgers comes to The Huntington from the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, where she has served as the chief operating officer since 2007.
“We are delighted to welcome Coreen to the Huntington family,” said Koblik. “Here’s an immensely talented professional with a solid background in a very different nonprofit arena. We are all extremely excited about the fresh perspective she will bring to the institution.”
At The Huntington, she will be responsible for the management of a $450 million endowment and a $41 million annual operating budget. She will also oversee human resources and retail services.
“I am excited and honored to join The Huntington and its magnificent team of dedicated Trustees, Overseers, and staff,” Rodgers said. “After working in a university setting for the past 15 years, I look forward to applying my nonprofit experience in a completely new setting that values education, research, and the arts. I hope to further contribute to the great work already accomplished there as we plan for future needs and new goals. My personal passion for literature, art, architecture, and gardens will be a wonderful match for this role and this organization. The shift is especially fulfilling as a member of the San Marino community, and I look forward to making new connections with the many people who appreciate this world-class institution.”
Rodgers will be a key figure in the strategic planning activities now under way at The Huntington. Two five-year strategic plans have been implemented and carefully followed during Koblik’s administration since he came on board in 2001. The strategic planning currently under way looks at managing the institution during the period 2015–20.
At USC, Rodgers oversees an annual budget of $750 million, including operating budgets and gifts, grants, endowments, and contracts. She also has responsibility for human resources, research administration, and space management. At the Keck School she turned the operating budget around from running a deficit to running a consistent surplus each year for the past six years.
Before working at USC, Rodgers was head of financial administration at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at University of Miami’s school of medicine. There, she oversaw the hospital, a surgery center, multiple clinics, and nearly 1,000 employees.
Rodgers, a certified public accountant, holds a bachelor of science degree in accounting from Pepperdine University in Malibu and an MBA from the University of Miami. She lives with her family in San Marino.
