About this Book
This edition of David Balfour is based on Stevenson’s final manuscript of the novel, now in the Houghton Library at Harvard. Faithful to the author’s intentions, it incorporates passages that were omitted from previous editions and restores his distinctive language. An introduction by the editor situates the novel within Stevenson’s oeuvre, with special focus on his mastery of language and of Scottish history. Color illustrations by N. C. Wyeth, created in 1924, accompany the text.
