Estate Tour

Learn how Henry and Arabella Huntington turned their San Marino ranch into a world famous cultural landmark! This easy walking outdoor tour will familiarize you with the cultural treasures of The Huntington: the magnificent gardens, art galleries, and library exhibitions. Chinese Garden Tour 流芳園

Architecture, nature, art and literature converge in Liu Fang Yuan 流芳園, the Garden of Flowing Fragrance. On this 90-minute walking tour, specially trained docents will guide you through The Huntington’s renowned traditional Suzhou-style garden, featuring a 1.5-acre lake, pavilions, a canyon waterfall and hand-carved stone bridges set against a wooded backdrop of mature oaks, pines, camellias and blossoming plum trees.  More about this tour



Japanese Garden Tour

This 90-minute walking tour provides a rare opportunity to discover the rich history and unparalleled beauty of The Huntington's Japanese Garden. For over a century, the historic Japanese Garden has been one of the most beloved and iconic landscapes at The Huntington, with its distinctive moon bridge, picture-postcard views of koi-filled ponds and the historic Japanese House.  Specialty Tour FAQs


Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

Yes - Advance purchase is required. Space is limited and tickets may not be purchased in person. To ensure availability on your preferred day and time, we recommend booking in advance.


What if it rains?

All tours are held rain or shine. Though rain is infrequent, tours take place outdoors so dress appropriately and bring an umbrella if needed.


How much walking is involved?

Specialty Tours include moderate walking and some slight elevations. Some paths are uneven or unpaved, and there is limited seating on tours, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Stairs are avoided when an impediment for guests.  


Can we continue to explore after the tour is over?

Yes! Ticket prices include general admission. Guests are encouraged to explore the gardens, galleries, and special exhibitions on their own after the tour.


Are Specialty Tours appropriate for children? 

Yes. Reduced pricing is available for children ages 4-11 for all Specialty Tours. Specialty Tours are not recommended for children under 4 years of age. These tours are geared toward adult audiences and occur in the morning prior to public hours, requiring participants to stay with their docent during non-public hours. We recommend families with small children visit during public hours.


Is The Huntington handicap accessible? 

All buildings and most garden areas are accessible to visitors with mobility impairments. Wheelchairs are available for loan at the entrance on a first come, first served basis. Mobility impaired visitors are welcome to bring their own wheelchairs or motorized scooters.


May I bring food and drinks?

Outside food and picnicking is not permitted on the grounds. Dining options are available in 1919 (café), Red Car (coffee shop), Freshwater Dumpling & Noodle House in the Chinese Garden, Rose Garden Tea Room, and on weekends, the Patio Grill.


Is parking free?



Are pets allowed? 

Only service animals are permitted at The Huntington. 


Are private Group Tours available?

Yes! Estate Tours and special garden tours are available for groups of 10 or more.  Reservations are required at least one month in advance. More about Group Tours


Do you offer school field trips?

Yes! Both docent-led and self-guided school field trips are available. More about school field trips


Is photography allowed?

Yes! Informal picture taking is allowed in the gardens and galleries. Flash photography, tripods/monopods, or selfie sticks are not permitted in the buildings, although they may be used in the gardens. Other restrictions apply


What’s the difference between Specialty Tours and free garden tours?

Free garden tours are available with general admission; tour schedule varies and is dependent on docent availability. Specialty Tours are booked in advance with time and dates guaranteed, include the overall estate, and may begin during pre-public hours so guests get an extended day to explore The Huntington.
