Have modern roses lost their perfume? Rose hybridizer Tom Carruth, the E. L. and Ruth B. Shannon Curator of the Rose Collection at The Huntington, will discuss how the genetics of the rose combined with historical market demands have led to some loss of fragrance over time. A review of several different roses and their scents will reveal how today’s hybrids compare to earlier varieties. A plant sale follows the program. Free; no reservations required.
