Traditional trees such as Japanese black pine and California juniper will be displayed alongside outstanding examples of non-traditional bonsai.
Malachite Exhibit
March 28-29 (Saturday–Sunday) Free
Beautiful Chinese-style “scholar’s rocks” of African malachite will be on view in “The Hidden World of Green: African Malachite, Asian Tradition, American Vision,” a display of brilliantly hued stones from the collection of Ralph Johnson. Approximately 50 stones will be on view, with unique natural shapes, textures, and shades of green that make them exquisite works of art. Like traditional gongshi and suiseki stones, these remarkable specimens of malachite are often suggestive of mountains, waterfalls, caves, or other aspects of nature. Organized by the American Viewing Stone Resource Center, this exhibit is presented in conjunction with The Huntington’s annual Bonsai Show.
