|“The Chinese Garden is a place that has enriched our lives and so beautifully represents the best of Chinese culture and its heritage. We are thrilled for this opportunity to be a part of a living legacy that can be enjoyed and shared with others.” |

Philanthropic Support for Liu Fang Yuan
Like all capital projects at The Huntington, the Garden of Flowing Fragrance is privately funded. Under discussion since the 1990s, the garden was launched with a $10 million bequest received in 2001 from the estate of Peter Paanakker, a Los Angeles businessman and philanthropist. Half of the $10 million seeded the construction fund, and the other half formed an endowment for programs and maintenance.
Donors and Donations
Many donors to the Garden of Flowing Fragrance have come from the Chinese and Chinese-American communities. Enthusiastic and generous, these donors, both local and overseas, have contributed millions of dollars to fund construction, programs, and endowments. This support is a testament to the cross-cultural and international appeal of the project. Donors have made generous gifts of cash, in-kind goods and services, and of discounts. The project is complex and ambitious, and we are grateful for every gift. Please visit Ways to Give to the Chinese Garden for more information, or contact Suzy Moser, 626-405-2277.
