Explore the Huntington’s collection of 18th-century British and French Art housed in the Huntington mansion. Tours include stops in period rooms and in-depth looks at paintings, sculptures and/or decorative arts.

 

Wednesdays and Thursdays
Program Begins at 10 a.m.
Duration: 90 minutes
Maximum of 70 students

DISCOVERING ART

HUNTINGTON ART GALLERY

Grades K through 3

4.0  Aesthetic Valuing

 

A program for primary grade levels that introduces children to basic concepts in art such as line, shape, color and texture, utilizing original art objects in the gallery.

 

Fridays Only
Program begins at 10 a.m.
Duration: 75 minutes
Accommodates a maximum of 50 students per day

AMERICAN ADVENTURES

VIRGINIA STEELE SCOTT GALLERIES OF AMERICAN ART

Grades K through 12

 

Addresses California Visual and Performing Arts Standards:
1.0  Artistic Perception
3.0  Historical and Cultural Context
4.0  Aesthetic Valuing

 

Dialogue based tours focus on helping students to develop critical thinking and speaking skills with diverse artworks from 1700-1980 and of various media. Theme based tours encourage students to look, think and discuss their ideas and perceptions. Docents are trained to follow students’ interests.

 

Thursdays and Fridays
Program begins at 10 a.m.
Duration: 60 minutes (K–3), 90 minutes (4–12)
Accommodates a maximum of 70 students

EXPLORATIONS IN AMERICAN HISTORY

LIBRARY AND AMERICAN ART GALLERIES
Grades 5, 8, and 11

 

History-Social Science Content Standards: 5.5 Causes of the American Revolution
History-Social Science Analysis Skill Standards: Research, Evidence, and Point-of-View
English-Language Arts Content Standards: Reading Comprehension: 2.3

 

Designed to complement the American history curriculum, this program focuses on primary source materials and artworks that document important events in our nation’s past. Students will visit both the Library and Scott Galleries of American Art.

 

Wednesdays Only
Program begins at 10 a.m.
Duration: 90 minutes
Maximum of 70 students
