Why Should I Bring My Students to The Huntington?

No amount of studying from books or computer screens can substitute for seeing the real thing. Taking your students to a museum or garden is a wonderful way to encourage their appreciation for and understanding of our natural and cultural heritage. Huntington field trips aim to deeply engage students in their personal learning experiences and bring their studies to life.

The best field trips are well planned. We can help! Learn more about our Art Programs, Garden Programs, and Library Programs, or contact us at school programs or call 626-405-2127.

 Frequently Asked Questions

Student Field Trip

WHAT IS THE COST OF THE FIELD TRIPS?

All docent-led tours are provided at no cost to the schools. Schools who have participated in the docent-led tour may continue their visit when we open to the public at no cost if they have the proper number of chaperones.

WHAT TIME DO THE TOURS BEGIN?
All docent-led tours begin at 10:00. We ask that schools arrive at 9:30 to be able to begin by 10:00.

HOW MANY CHAPERONES DO I NEED?

We require one chaperone for every ten students. The adults must accompany the students throughout the visit and are responsible for the group’s behavior while visiting The Huntington. Visits to The Rose Hills Foundation Conservatory for Botanical Science or the Helen and Peter Bing Children’s Garden require one adult for every four students. No more than one adult per four students will be allowed on the field trip visit. No infants, siblings or strollers are allowed during the docent-led tours.

ARE LUNCH FACILITIES AVAILABLE?

The Huntington has a small picnic area on the grass where students may eat lunch. There are no tables or seating. Lockers are available at the entrance pavilion for 50 cents.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE CONFIRMATION ABOUT MY TOUR?

You will receive an e-mail confirmation when your tour is scheduled. You will need to respond within ten days to the e-mail. A packet with further information regarding your visit will be mailed about a month before your visit. This will include a DVD with overview video and program-specific segments. The DVD also includes resources for teachers, including links to vocabulary words and lesson plans.

IS BUS FUNDING AVAILABLE?

The Huntington may be able to offer limited bus funding assistance. To request funding assistance please note “Bus Funding” on your registration form in the notes section when booking your field trip.

WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS?

All tours are provided rain or shine. We will call if we need to cancel a garden tour because of torrential rain which makes it unsafe to walk in the gardens.
