Celebrating Our Members: Mitchell Barnhart and Amado Sierras

Members provide essential operational support that helps sustain The Huntington and ensure it remains an invaluable cultural resource for others. Meet some of our Member families and learn what they find special about The Huntington.

Mitchell Barnhart and Amado Sierras lived in Pasadena for 35 years before moving north to Pebble Beach. Despite the distance, they remain loyal Members, attending lectures, garden talks, and concerts.

“What makes The Huntington so special is its everyday accessibility. It’s so easy to go to so many things and choose from topics of every kind,” Barnhart says.

As the couple entered retirement, they found that they loved all the Membership benefits even more. “When we were planning to redo our garden, we would stroll through The Huntington to get inspiration, drop in on a garden talk to learn, and pack our wagon while shopping the annual plant sale,” Sierras says.

Living up north, they have to be more intentional with visits. This past spring, they made the hourslong drive from Pebble Beach to attend a special tree planting event. Now when they visit, one of their first stops is to check in on the oak tree planted that day in spring and see how much it has grown.

When The Huntington needed support for its tree canopy, they were eager to help. “The Huntington is our favorite place, even if it’s just to sit in the gardens,” Barnhart says with a smile.
