Culinary Workshop: The Artistry and Flavors of Tangyuan

Discover the art of making colorful stuffed rice balls! Learn about their cultural roots, get creative with natural dyes, and enjoy step-by-step guidance.
Classes

Learn about the cultural significance of this treat, with variants all across East and Southeast Asia, while making your very own. Instructors Rachel and Erika will walk you through how to make these notoriously tricky stuffed rice balls while offering guidance on how to liven them up with natural food coloring. This class is recommended for adults only, but any level of cooking skill is welcome.

Key Details

  • All supplies and materials are included.
  • All levels of experience are welcome; suitable for adults and older children.
  • All treats will be vegan-friendly.
  • Soy, nut, gluten, and egg cross-contamination is possible, so those who have severe allergies should not attend this workshop.

Day of Program

About the Instructors

Rachel Lo is a self-taught Chinese American home cook and baker specializing in contemporary Asian American flavors. She draws endless inspiration from her childhood in Los Angeles surrounded by diverse flavors. Her food and educational videos have been featured on KCRW, Buzzfeed, the New York Times, and more. Erika Ho is a self-taught Chinese Vietnamese American home baker and designer specializing in creating tea-based pastries. With a huge passion for both food and design, she incorporates her skills to showcase a balance of flavors, textures, and artistic structures.
