Celebrating Our Members: Jack Flemming and Julia Heins

Members provide essential operational support that helps sustain The Huntington and ensure it remains an invaluable cultural resource for others. Meet some of our Member families and learn what they find special about The Huntington.

Jack Flemming and Julia Heins became Sustaining Members in 2022. “In many ways, The Huntington has served as a backdrop to our relationship,” Flemming says. Heins had been a Member for years, so they spent the early months of their relationship at The Huntington, walking around and getting to know each other. Eventually, as their lives grew more intertwined, they’d swing by together after work and unpack their days.

Then, last October, they cemented The Huntington as a seminal place in their relationship by getting engaged in the gardens.

“Julia’s parents were in town, and they were going to The Huntington, so I secretly flew out my parents to surprise her,” Flemming fondly remembers. Heins caught on to the surprise proposal when she saw him hiding behind a tree. “My answer was yes,” she says. “The Huntington will always be where Jack and I tied our lives together.”
