Celebrating Our Members: Lily Bu and Jan-Michael Medina

Members provide essential operational support that helps sustain The Huntington and ensure it remains an invaluable cultural resource for others. Meet some of our Member families and learn what they find special about The Huntington.

Lily Bu and Jan-Michael Medina don’t live far from The Huntington now, but when they were undergraduates at UCLA, they’d often make the drive from Westwood to visit. “The Huntington made such a positive impression on us back then,” Medina says. “We couldn’t have imagined that one day The Huntington would be in our backyard. It’s such an important place to us.”

It became their go-to place when they moved to Pasadena and their eldest son, Nolan, was 2 years old. Whether it was visits to Nolan’s favorite gardens—the Desert Garden and Lily Ponds—or for weekend strolls, Bu and Medina always felt The Huntington was a safe place for Nolan to run around. “He also loves the dance floor at Members Summer Evenings,” Bu adds.

As their family has grown to include Nolan’s little brother, Arlo, they continue to discover new gardens, programs, and activities. The next item on their list of things to try is the Rose Garden Tea Room’s Wine Down, which offers wine and light bites in one of their favorite gardens.

“The best part of The Huntington is how it evolves with our interests over the years,” Medina says. “And we get to take advantage of so many wonderful benefits as Members.”
