Bookmaking Workshop: Illuminated Journals

Join artist Rachel Curry for an intergenerational workshop that’s devoted to the gold-leaf wonders of illuminated manuscripts and inspired by the Huntington Library.
Classes

Have you ever wondered about those big fancy letters you see at the beginning of fairy tales? These decorative letters come from handwritten medieval books known as illuminated manuscripts.

In this hands-on workshop inspired by The Huntington’s incredible collections, participants will visit the Library Exhibition Hall and then create their own illuminated letters using gold leaf and watercolor, which will go on the cover of their own journal.
