Botanical Workshop: Mastering Orchid Care

Brandon Tam, associate curator of the orchid collection at The Huntington, will discuss diverse approaches and philosophies to orchid cultivation, covering key aspects such as repotting, watering techniques, and encouraging reblooming. Participants will have the hands-on opportunity to repot a Phalaenopsis orchid during the session and take it home. Equipped with newfound knowledge from the class, attendees can challenge themselves to successfully rebloom their orchid using the techniques learned.

Brandon Tam, associate curator of the orchid collection at The Huntington, curates one of the largest and most diverse orchid species collections in the world, comprising over 1,500 unique species and 3,600 different varieties across 280 orchid genera. Tam first joined The Huntington as an orchid collection specialist at age 16, while simultaneously earning his bachelor’s degree in plant science from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
