Creative Workshop: Upcycled Bookbinding

Join teaching artist Rachel Curry for an intergenerational, hands-on workshop creating handmade artist books using upcycled materials.
Classes

Drawing inspiration from Mineo Mizuno’s Homage to Nature, participants will create handmade artist books using upcycled materials. Workshop participants will learn to handsew their books, embracing the themes of preservation and materiality that Mizuno explores in his site-specific installation.

  • Registration includes free admission to The Huntington after the class.
  • This program is held indoors and will include a walk to the Mineo Mizuno art installation.
  • This intergenerational class is suitable for adults and children 12+. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Rachel Curry

About the Instructor

Rachel Curry is a teaching artist, letterpress printer, bookbinder, zinester, and fiber artist from Los Angeles. She received her B.A. in art education with an emphasis in fiber arts from California State University, Long Beach, and has taught at such institutions as Otis College of Art and Design, The Huntington, Meta Open Arts, and Craft Contemporary, as well as high schools and community organizations across Southern California. Her practice as an artist and an educator is rooted in the belief that art is for everyone and that it is possible to build a better world through creative expression.
