Family Workshop: Printmaking & Paper Quilting

Create your own patchwork art piece inspired by the visionary artists featured in the exhibition "Gee's Bend: Shared Legacy." Participants will create colorful one-of-a-kind ink prints and turn them into a beautiful quilt-like collage.

Inspired by the special exhibition "Gee's Bend: Shared Legacy," this engaging family workshop delves into the realms of pattern, color, and composition, employing printmaking and mixed media collages. Drawing from the art of crafting quilt-inspired prints, families will have the opportunity to create unique mono-prints using textured fabrics. These prints will then serve as the foundation for crafting paper quilts, taking inspiration from the distinctive geometric and improvisational designs pioneered by Gee's Bend artists. Participants will be encouraged to experiment with inventive combinations of materials, including original mono-prints, found collage materials, upcycled fabrics, and even sewing directly onto paper!
