Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles

Explore the musical impact of Black American artists with the Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles at The Huntington.  

Featuring the GFBLA jazz and concert band, this celebratory concert highlights such composers as Duke Ellington, William Grant Still, and Omar Thomas. The concert also includes a premiere performance of poet, pianist, and composer Harold Bruce Forsythe’s original work, which has been transcribed for the band.

  • Check in with Education staff at Rothenberg Hall beginning at 1:30 p.m.
  • Ticket does not include admission to The Huntington.

About the Band:

The Gay Freedom Band of Los Angeles (GFBLA) is the second-oldest LGBTQ+ community wind ensemble in the world. GFBLA provides public concerts throughout Southern California, offering a wide repertoire of music ranging from classical to contemporary. The band focuses on providing a positive environment for everybody, enriching the community through music, and setting an example of acceptance and camaraderie among all people.
