Join longtime Huntington staff member Randy Shulman for a captivating behind-the-scenes look at The Huntington, which includes a tour of the Library’s Preservation Lab and a peek into the curator’s role in the Library.

In this two-part series, Randy Shulman takes participants on a journey through The Huntington’s origins, history, and renaissance, as well as the dramatic changes over the past 30 years. The class concludes with a special reception on the second night.

May 2: Take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Library’s conservation lab, where bound and flat objects are restored and conserved. Attendees will meet Kristi Westberg, senior book and paper conservator, who will share an overview of her work and lead a lab tour.

May 9: Meet Vanessa Wilkie, the William A. Moffett Senior Curator of Medieval Manuscripts & British History and head of Library Curatorial, who will give attendees a peek into the curator’s role in the Library and how they manage and grow the collections. Attendees will also learn about a few rare objects and their fascinating history.

Day of Program:

  • Please check in with Education staff at Admissions window #10 beginning at 5 p.m.
  • Class is held in the Ahmanson Reading Room in the Munger Research Center.
  • Admission to The Huntington is included for both Thursdays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.

About the Class Facilitator:

Randy Shulman is the senior vice president for Advancement and External Relations. He works closely with and promotes collaboration among the president, senior staff, and governing boards to build relationships and fund operating and strategic initiatives.

Shulman was named outstanding professional fundraiser of 2020 by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Los Angeles Chapter. He is a dedicated staff member who has served The Huntington with great energy, enthusiasm, and professionalism.
