A Taste of the Chinese Strings

Join us for an afternoon of traditional Chinese music, highlighting classical string instruments and solos by Meiye Ma, Hejia Gao, and Yunhe Liang.

About the performers:

Yunhe Liang performs on erhu

Yunhe Liang is a graduate of Hebei Normal University and the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, where he majored in piano and erhu. He began playing erhu at the age of 8. Liang has performed at many top venues in the United States and teaches erhu and piano in Southern California.


Meiye Ma 馬梅椰 performs on pipa

Born in Shanghai, Meiye Ma began studying pipa at the age of 10 to pursue her interest in the Suzhou pingtan 蘇州評弹 genre, a musical storytelling tradition. After studying pipa at the Shanghai Conservatory, she became the principal soloist for the Shanghai Film Orchestra. She performs and teaches in Los Angeles.


Hejia Gao 高鶴嘉 performs on guzheng

Hejia Gao is a graduate of Inner Mongolia Arts University. She has taught and performed guzheng in China and abroad with such groups as the Chinese Zhengdao Guzheng School, the Chinese Women’s Xinzheng Orchestra, and the Spring Thunder Chinese Music Association (based in the San Gabriel Valley).


Reservations are required. This event is open seating on a first-come, first-served basis.
