SAN MARINO, Calif.— Heather Hart, director of information technology at the Broad museum in Los Angeles, has been named Vice President of Information Technology at The Huntington Library, Art Collections, and Botanical Gardens, Karen Lawrence, president of The Huntington, announced today. Hart will assume her new post on Oct. 15.
"Heather comes to us with extraordinary experience, having been on the team that launched the Broad and helped make it one of the most visited museums in the Los Angeles area," said Lawrence. "We are thrilled she'll be bringing her IT expertise to The Huntington to help us envision and put in motion our digital future."
At The Huntington, Hart will lead a team of five professionals and oversee the network of systems and systems architecture that underpin The Huntington's digital infrastructure. Among the more pressing priorities: the need for a comprehensive digital asset management system that links The Huntington's massive library, art, and botanical collections. "As museums and cultural organizations rely more and more heavily on digital tools for audience engagement and visitor experience, advances in IT become ever more important to our mission," said Lawrence.
Hart will serve on the institution's senior staff, reporting to the president.
At the Broad, Hart serves as part of the management team that led the museum through construction and opening, serving as an IT staff of one, and overseeing all aspects of the museum's digital footprint including digitizing the Broad's archives; overseeing the design and development of all internal business systems; as well as creating and managing public-facing systems, including the museum's websites and mobile app.
Before the Broad, Hart was director of information technology at the Balboa Park Online Collaborative, which provides some 20 cultural organizations in the San Diego area with a range of strategic technology services including websites, digitization, and in-gallery interactives. Hart holds a B.A. from the University of Southern California in print journalism and political science.
