This Saturday USC Libraries play host to the fifth annual Los Angeles Archives Bazaar. The Huntington was the site of the first bazaar in 2006, when 30 historical collections and archives exhibited photos, pamphlets, and other primary documents from their collections. Saturday, more than 70 exhibitors will be on hand, including L.A.-area universities, libraries, museums, and community organizations. The event is free and open to the public and is presented by the L.A. as Subject Archives Forum.
While it is a must for regional historians and archivists, the Archives Bazaar has also proven to be a treat for casual enthusiasts, giving them an opportunity to discover the wealth of resources available on L.A. and its history. In addition to browsing the region's rich historical collections, you can also listen to panel discussions, including a 9:30 a.m. talk called "Researching L.A. 101," by Jennifer Allan Goldman, curator of manuscripts and the institutional archivist at The Huntington. Patt Morrison will be the special guest speaker at 11 a.m. The Los Angeles Times columnist and 89.3 KPCC radio host will discuss how libraries and historical archives have informed her work.
The Archives Bazaar takes place at the Doheny Memorial Library from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sat., Oct. 23. A full schedule is available online at the L.A. as Subject website.
