Estate Tour

On this 90-minute outdoor walking tour, guests will have the opportunity to explore some of the 130 acres of magnificent gardens and learn how Henry and Arabella Huntington’s San Marino Ranch was transformed into the world-famous cultural landmark we know today. Guests will be guided by expert docents through the amazing elements of The Huntington, including 16 themed gardens, three art galleries, the Library, and current special exhibitions. Sales end at 3 p.m. the day before.

Chinese Garden Tour 流芳園

Architecture, nature, art, and literature converge in Liu Fang Yuan 流芳園, the Garden of Flowing Fragrance. On this 90-minute walking tour, specially trained docents will guide you through The Huntington’s renowned traditional Suzhou-style garden, featuring a 1.5-acre lake, pavilions, a canyon waterfall, and hand-carved stone bridges set against a wooded backdrop of mature oaks, pines, camellias, and blossoming plum trees. Sales end at 3 p.m. the day before.

Japanese Garden Tour

This 90-minute walking tour provides a rare opportunity to discover the rich history and unparalleled beauty of The Huntington’s Japanese Garden. For over a century, the historic Japanese Garden has been one of the most beloved and iconic landscapes at The Huntington, with its distinctive moon bridge, picture-postcard views of koi-filled ponds, and the historic Japanese House. This tour includes a stop in the Chinese Garden to compare and contrast the two gardens. Sales end at 3 p.m. the day before.

What if it rains?
Specialty Tours are held rain or shine. Though rain is infrequent, tours take place outdoors, so dress appropriately and bring an umbrella if needed.

How much walking is involved?
Specialty Tours include moderate walking and some slight elevations. Some paths are uneven or unpaved, so comfortable walking shoes are recommended. Stairs are avoided when an impediment for guests.

Can we continue to explore after the tour is over?
Yes. Specialty Tour tickets include general admission. Guests are invited to explore the gardens, galleries, and special exhibitions after the tour.

Are Specialty Tours appropriate for children?
Yes. Reduced pricing is available for children ages 4 to 11 for all Specialty Tours. Specialty Tours are not recommended for children under 4. These tours are geared toward adult audiences and may occur in the morning prior to public hours, requiring participants to stay with their docent during non-public hours. We recommend that families with small children visit during public hours.

Are Specialty Tours accessible for visitors with mobility impairments?
Yes. All buildings and most garden areas are accessible to visitors with mobility impairments. Wheelchairs are available for loan at the entrance on a first-come, first-served basis, or you are welcome to bring your own wheelchair or motorized scooter.
